Rhode Island State Police were involved in separate traffic incidents this week, injuring two troopers and prompting the agency to urge drivers to slow down and move over.
On Monday, a car slammed into a state police cruiser at the scene of a previous crash in Providence, WPRI-TV reports. A trooper inside the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
The next incident happened early Wednesday at another crash scene in East Providence. A trooper was standing next to one of the cars in the crash when another vehicle struck a parked car, sending it into the trooper, who was taken to the hospital with moderate injures.
Finally, troopers were conducting a traffic stop Thursday in Providence when the driver purposefully backed into a cruiser twice and then sped away. The troopers weren't injured, and the driver was arrested after a brief chase.
“We are incredibly fortunate that none of these incidents resulted in a life-threatening injury, but we need drivers to be more alert for the safety of our troopers and the motoring public,” said Col. Darnell Weaver.
